Rice & River; The Logo
This design draws inspiration from the natural beauty and gentle flow of the Pamlico River. Using Kanji characters, the words "Rice" (above) and "River" (below) are drawn. An art form unto themselves, they reflect the calm and continuous movement of the water, exhibiting the essence of the river and expressing a sense of tranquility.
At the center of the logo is a red seal which represents "hospitality."
Surrounding the elements of the logo is an Enso; an expression of the Zen mind which is on a constant journey to enlightenment, freedom, emptiness, beauty and imperfection.
Together, all elements work in harmony and balance.
The Relationship Between Rice and The Pamlico
Perhaps surprisingly, the rice is the central component of sushi--not the fish. The rice acts as the foundation, the base which supports the sashimi laying on top. The rice balances the flavor and is a critical binding agent which holds texture and enhances the flavor.
In a similar fashion, the Pamlico River has always been central to Washington, North Carolina. It provides nourishment for the living things around it, brings commerce and tourism, and gives us all a sense of peace.
Every person who watches the sunset on the Pamlico finds themselves in a state of awe, wondering if the artist created it just for them.
